Stories: Empowering Young Men in Roseland: The Birth of Our Job Readiness Program and Its Impact
02.24.2026
In response to the ongoing challenges faced by young men in the Roseland community, our organization has developed a dedicated Job Readiness Program aimed at equipping youth with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. This initiative was born out of a recognition that many young men in our area face barriers to employment, positive community engagement, and leadership opportunities.
How the Program Came About: Over the past few years, community leaders, educators, and youth workers observed an urgent need for targeted support to address issues such as lack of mentorship, conflict, and limited access to restorative justice practices. These challenges often lead to cycles of violence, disengagement, and missed opportunities for growth.
In response, we launched this comprehensive program to fill those gaps—creating a space where young men can develop essential skills, build relationships, and become active leaders in their community.
Why It’s Needed in Roseland: Roseland, like many urban communities, faces unique challenges including economic disparities, youth violence, and a need for positive role models. Many young men struggle to find pathways toward stability and success. Our program seeks to address these issues head-on by providing:
Leadership development through Circle/Community Keeper activities
Restorative justice practices to foster accountability and healing
Conflict resolution skills to promote peace in schools and neighborhoods
Mentorship opportunities to inspire and guide youth toward productive futures
The Program in Action: Participants are currently engaged in activities that teach them how to facilitate respectful conversations, repair relationships through restorative justice, and resolve conflicts peacefully. These skills not only prepare them for employment but also empower them to become community leaders who can influence positive change.
A Community-Centered Solution: “Our goal is to create a supportive environment where young men can thrive,” says our Program Director, Mr. Thomas. “This program was created because we saw a need—a need for hope, guidance, and leadership in Roseland. We believe these young men have the potential to transform our community, and we’re committed to helping them do just that.”
Looking Ahead: As the program continues to grow, we remain dedicated to expanding opportunities for youth and strengthening the fabric of Roseland. Together, we can build a future where young men are equipped, empowered, and inspired to lead.
